Ten Dallas ISD Seniors to Receive $20,000 Each
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District high school seniors can now apply for the Sulentic Family Foundation Scholarship; deadline is Friday, March 13.
For the third year, 10 Dallas ISD seniors will benefit from a $20,000 scholarship each, thanks to the Sulentic Family Foundation. The Sulentic Family Foundation established a $1 million scholarship program with Dallas ISD. Each year, between 2007 and 2011, the district will select 10 graduating students to each receive a $20,000 scholarship.
The Sulentics are a local family whose son and daughter attended Dallas ISD schools. They believe very much in the importance of Dallas ISD and would like to help seniors from the district achieve a college education.
"The Sulentic Family Foundation is thrilled to be able to assist a group of Dallas ISD students pursue their college education," said Bob Sulentic. "It is particularly rewarding to support students who have been chosen based on a demonstrated track record of hard work and ethical behavior, characteristics that will serve them well throughout their lives."
"I extend my gratitude to the Sulentic family for their support to our students," said Michael Hinojosa, Superintendent of Schools. "The assistance that our students receive from the Sulentic family goes beyond the money. They are helping change the lives of students, their families, and generations of lives to come.
Application requirements include:
A committee will select the recipients of the 10 scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year in April, based on consistently demonstrated integrity, consistently demonstrated hard work and financial need. In order to accommodate a scholarship recipient who must work while attending college, the scholarship funds may be utilized on a semester by semester basis provided the student completes at least nine credit hours at an accredited college, university, or community college each semester maintaining the required GPA.
Students may obtain a copy of the application from their school counselor, or may also visit the district's Web site www.dallasisd.org for this and other scholarship opportunities.
