Dallas ISD Announces Common Cents Fundraiser Recipients

17 Feb 2009

Local non-profit and charity organizations received a donation from students’ fundraising efforts

DALLAS–Local non-profit and charity organizations received more than $45,000 as a result of Dallas ISD students who collected pennies and spare change through the Common Cents campaign.

Students from 34 Dallas ISD schools participated in the student-led coin collection that will benefit 27 non-profit and charity organizations.  The Common Cents campaign has the goal of raising money for charity and non-profit organizations while encouraging good citizenship and social responsibility in students.

The idea of the Common Cents campaign was brought to the district by Dallas philanthropist Louise Gartner with the purpose of teaching children to make a difference in their community.  Since the beginning of the campaign eleven years ago, Dallas ISD students have raised and donated more than $400,000.
