Press Conference Will Kick Off Jazz Event
DALLAS—A press conference highlighting the Townview Big 'D' Band jazz initiative is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 9, in the band hall at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center, 1201 E. Eighth Street.
The event marks the beginning of Townview's Masters Workshop that will begin immediately following the press conference at 6 p.m. The workshop, sponsored by the Townview parent support group and the Big 'D' Band Booster Association, will feature special guest artist Shelley Carrol.
Carrol studied saxophone under the legendary Arnett Cobb and Don Wilkerson and was a member of the Grammy nominated One O'Clock Lab Band.
Students from the All-Star Jazz Band will participate in the workshop.
The workshop will set the stage for the schools' grand event, the 'Elegant Evening of Jazz' that will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The event will feature the award-winning Townview Jazz Ensemble who will accompany Shelley Carrol.
As part of the Reform Governance in Action training program, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees has developed its vision and a set of core beliefs and commitments. The vision of the board is to be the best urban district in the United States. The third of their beliefs is: We believe that educational equity and excellence will eliminate the achievement gap.
