Program Addresses Stress and Anxiety Associated with High-Stakes Testing

DALLAS—Fourth grade students at Eladio R. Martinez Learning Center are learning to integrate yoga practices with the curriculum through the Peaceful Paths program sponsored by the Dallas ISD, University of Texas at Arlington and Bikram Yoga of Dallas.

Through the program, students get help improving their general wellbeing, as well as their academic and social skills. Students are taught how to enhance their ability to be introspective as they focus on high-stake testing and instruction and how to interact in peaceful and constructive ways.

Students will demonstrate some of the things they have learned through art exhibits and skit presentations Tuesday, March 10, after the 6:15 p.m., PTA meeting at the school, 4500 Bernal.

As part of the Reform Governance in Action training program, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees has developed its vision and a set of core beliefs and commitments. The vision of the board is to be the best urban district in the United States. The third of their beliefs is: We believe that educational equity and excellence will eliminate the achievement gap.
