Dallas ISD Hosts Naming Ceremony For William H. Cotton Service Center

10 Apr 2009

Ceremony Scheduled for Tuesday, April 14

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District invites the community to the naming ceremony of the William H. Cotton Service Center, 3701 South Lamar, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 14.

The center is being named in honor of William H. Cotton, a leader who provided a lifetime of service to children and public education. Cotton retired from Dallas ISD in 2000, after 43 years of service. Cotton, who is also a Dallas ISD graduate, was the first African American administrator in the 1960s assigned to a predominately Anglo school, South Oak Cliff High School. He later became the first African American principal of that campus.

Dallas ISD Board of Trustee Ron Price, District 9, will congratulate the honoree and family. Other district officials, students, and William H. Cotton's family members, including his daughter Kamalia Cotton, principal at H.S. Thompson Learning Center, will also participate in the program.
