Student Transfer Application Period Opens

Application Period Closes June 3

DALLAS—The application period to request a student transfer for the 2009-2010 school year in the Dallas Independent School District is now open through June 3.

Parents with children in kindergarten through 12th grade may request a transfer from their assigned school to another Dallas ISD school.

There are several types of transfers available.

• Curriculum transfers are for students wanting to attend the nearest Dallas ISD school that offers a course or program the assigned school does not offer.
• 
  
• A hardship transfer is for students wanting to attend another Dallas ISD school if personal or family circumstances create a hardship for a student to attend the assigned school.
• 
  
• Public Education Grant transfers are for students wanting to attend a higher performing school if the assigned school is a PEG school. PEG schools are schools that have been academically unacceptable for 2005, 2006 or 2007, or where less than 50 percent of the students have passed any section of the TAKS in two of these three years.

• Out-of-district transfers are for students wanting to attend a school within the Dallas ISD if the student lives outside the district.

Transfers will be considered if they meet certain qualifications and if space is available.

No Child Left Behind school choice transfers are also available for students who want to attend
another Dallas ISD school if the assigned school has not made adequate yearly progress for two or more consecutive years. The deadline for NCLB transfers is 30 days after parents receive notification of their option for school choice.

The Dallas ISD 2009-2010 school year starts August 24.

Applications for transfer requests can be picked up at any Dallas ISD school or at the Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave. Applications are also available online at http://www.dallasisd.org/parents/transfers.htm.
