Ring of Scholars Event Celebrates Academic Achievement
DALLAS Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa will join officials of the Thanks-Giving Foundation in an event at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 4, recognizing valedictorians of 21 Dallas ISD high schools at the Foundation's Thanks-Giving Square, 1627 Pacific Ave. Board chair of Thanks-Giving Foundation, Don Glendenning, and board member and former Deputy Secretary of Education, Dr. Linus Wright, also will address the students and their principals.
In keeping with Thanks-Giving Square's mission of giving thanks for all good things, Executive Director, Tatiana Androsov, says the Ring of Scholars recognition event is being held to celebrate some of the outstanding students and future leaders being groomed in Dallas ISD. "We believe that good things are happening at Dallas schools, and that the school district is helping to develop students who will capably serve as our city's future leaders, thinkers and decision-makers. That is worthy of celebration."
Androsov says Thanks-Giving Foundation was inspired to sponsor such an event after reading of how the Carnegie Foundation started a similar program in New York City, which has led newspapers and television stations to publicly recognize valedictorians of the city's public schools.
Dr. Hinojosa said he is pleased that the Thanks-Giving Foundation wants to create a tradition in Dallas in which the community surrounds and supports students who pursue excellence. "We know that each of these young people has made sacrifices to accomplish becoming the top student in his or her senior class, and we believe there is merit in celebrating the spirit of overcoming obstacles to be the best."
The event will include the presentation of certificates to the students followed by a reception. For information, contact Tatiana Androsov at (214) 969-1977.
