Dallas ISD High School Girls Track Team Is Tops In State

Skyline Girls Bring Home State Championship

DALLAS—Dallas ISD's Skyline High School Girls Track Team won the UIL Class 5A Girls State Track and Field Championship for the second year in a row at the competition held recently in Austin. This is the seventh UIL state title for the Lady Raiders.

Team members include Sydney Davis, Kearra Haynes, Tiffany Hines, Candace Jackson, Alishia Perkins, Sha'Reva Tyson and Jasmine Webb who combined to score a total of 67 points earning them the state team title.

The Lady Raiders captured gold in three events: the 100 meter dash, 4X100 meter relay and the 4X200 meter relay.

Also during the event, Simone Brinkley, a senior at James Madison High School, won the gold medal for the UIL Class 3A, 400 meter dash and 800 meter dash competitions. Brinkley's performance placed Madison in 10th place out of 55 teams statewide.

Lauren Blackburn, a junior at Sunset High School, was the gold medal winner for the UIL Class 5A, 100 meter hurdles and took the silver medal in the 300 meter hurdles placing Sunset in 11th place statewide.

The first belief adopted by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees is: "We believe that every student can perform at or above grade level and graduate college and workforce ready to compete in the global economy."
