27 Jul 2009

Dallas ISD Program Designed to Enhance High School Success Starts August 3

DALLAS—Dallas ISD students entering ninth grade this fall will be among the first to benefit from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through a program designed to enhance high school success.

The High School Early Start Academy, a two-week program supported by funds from the ARRA stimulus package, begins Monday, August 3 and runs through Thursday, August 13.

Through the program, rising ninth grade students will get help polishing their math, science and language arts skills as they prepare to enter high school.

The High School Early Start Academy also offers a variety of fun enrichment activities that allow students to explore specific areas of interest. Enrichment classes vary by campus. Enrichment offerings at select campuses could include: Extreme Makeover: Dallas Edition which focuses on architecture; Wellness Rocks for those interested in fitness; CSI: Dallas which will allow students to study forensic science, and many others.

The academy is being offered at all 22 comprehensive Dallas ISD high school campuses. Students at H. Grady Spruce High School will get a jump on other students by starting their program Monday, July 27.

On-site registration is available at the campuses August 3 and 4. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be provided.
