Dallas ISD Invites Community Leaders To Be A 'Principal For A Day'

9 Sep 2009

Capital One Bank-sponsored event will be held October 15 at participating Dallas ISD schools

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District invites corporate, social, professional, civic and community leaders to experience firsthand what a Dallas ISD principal encounters on a daily basis by participating in the Principal for a Day program scheduled for October 15.

Sponsored by Capital One Bank, the purpose of the Principal for a Day program is to increase awareness and understanding among individuals in the private sector of the strengths and challenges of schools in the Dallas ISD, demonstrate the private sector's commitment to ensuring a quality public education for all students and form ongoing partnerships between individuals/businesses and Dallas ISD.

"Capital One is pleased to sponsor the Dallas ISD's Principal for a Day program," said Kent Eastman, Texas State President for Capital One Bank. "Capital One Bank is a longtime supporter of educational programs and initiatives in the communities we serve. Principal for a Day expands the understanding that local business and civic leaders have of the accomplishments and challenges of students, teachers and principals in the Dallas ISD. It gets those leaders involved in public education in a fun and meaningful way."

Community representatives interested in sharing their knowledge with school staff and students while learning more about the functions of public schools and witnessing teaching and learning in Dallas ISD schools, can submit a request to be a "Principal for a Day" by sending an e-mail to pfad@dallasisd.org. Participation is by invitation only, and the registration deadline is September 30.

Partners and volunteers play an important role in achieving the district's goals of becoming the best urban school district in the nation and in helping graduating students become college and workforce ready. To become a partner or volunteer with Dallas ISD, visit the Support Our Schools section of the district's Web site at www.dallasisd.org.

"We believe that engaged parents and guardians impact a student's academic and personal development" is the sixth core belief adopted by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees.
