NBA Star Delivers Computers and Stay in School Message to Students

DALLAS—Dallas Maverick guard Jason Terry took time to encourage students during a recent visit to Alex W. Spence Middle Learning Center as he delivered computers and printers to the school and encouraged students to stay in school.

Terry's visit was part of the HP Digital Assist educational grant competition, a nationwide program that partners HP with the NBA in an effort to enhance students' math, science and reading skills.

The HP Digital Assist competition invites student teams to create sports or basketball-themed digital media projects that demonstrate their knowledge of math, science or reading. The competition runs through Nov. 20 and will include more than 5,000 students from approximately 100 selected Title 1 public schools in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, San Francisco Bay Area, and Washington, D.C.

Selected schools will compete to win more than $80,000 in HP mobile digital classroom technology, NBA tickets and merchandise, visits from NBA stars and other awards.

Sponsors will announce the six regional winners of the HP mobile digital classroom grants in December 2009.

The second core belief adopted by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees is "We believe that educators have the most powerful impact on student achievement."
