Players Provide Insight into Balancing Academics with Sports
DALLAS—Dallas Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin will visit athletes and student leaders at Skyline High School, 7777 Forney Rd., Tuesday, October 27, at 9:30 a.m., to provide some insight into balancing a life of academics and sports. He will go on to speak to students at Birdie Alexander Elementary School, 1830 Goldwood Dr., at 2 p.m.
Hamlin attended high school in Memphis, where he lettered in football, track and baseball while serving as senior class vice president and as a member of the national honor society. He majored in business education at the University of Arkansas before joining the NFL in 2003.
"A good education is essential for a successful life," said Hamlin. "I want young people to know they can do anything they put their minds to, if they will focus on school now."
Other Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to visit several district schools this week to share their motivational message. Cornerback and safety Alan Ball will speak to students at South Oak Cliff High School, 3601 S. Marsalis Ave., 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 27.
"Dallas ISD is pioneering a college readiness warning system and we are proud to lend our support to it," in announcing a $3.77 million grant.
