David W. Carter High School Passes on Kindness
DALLAS—The David W. Carter Cowboys have been preparing to take on cross-town rivals L.G. Pinkston in a most unusual way. In addition to their regular football practice schedule, the players have been involved in fundraising efforts with other Carter students and staff to raise money for injured Pinkston defensive back Jared Williams.
For the last few days, students and staff at Carter have been distributing flyers and collecting money throughout the school to donate to Williams.
Carter came up with the idea after they received an incredible act of kindness from Highland Park High School students and staff who recently updated the player's locker room at Carter.
"It was a great act of kindness by Highland Park that touched our hearts and made us think of ways that we could take that kindness and pay it forward," said Carter principal Gail Dupree. "When we read the story about the Pinkston player, we knew we wanted to do something for this courageous young man and his family. We want him to know that we're pulling for him."
The Carter Cowboys plan to present a check along with a jersey from Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo to Williams' mom before Thursday's kickoff. Williams, paralyzed during a game against North Dallas High School, has started physical rehabilitation and is able to move his arms and upper body.
Kickoff time is 7 p.m., Thursday, October 22, at Sprague, 3606 Boulder Drive.
