Adoption Period Continues Through Nov. 6
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's textbook open adoption period has begun and continues through Nov. 6. This year, textbooks up for adoption are from the subject areas of English language arts and multilanguage enrichment. In addition, a system for supporting the new English language arts proficiency standards will be adopted for use by all content area teachers.
Schools that teach content areas eligible for textbook adoption participate in the adoption process. All content teachers participate on a Campus Textbook Committee for each applicable adoption for each campus. For each content area, a common criteria for textbooks has been established in terms of support of district curriculum objectives, state objectives, and ethnic and cultural diversity.
All teachers who teach the content course will vote their preferences during districtwide online polling.
During the districtwide Publisher Q&A Exhibits, district personnel, parents, community members, and students have the opportunity to examine the textbooks available for adoption. An evaluation form will be made available to these stakeholders to submit comments and input.
After considering the input from campuses, the public, and content advisory subcommittees, the Central Textbook Adoption Committee will make final recommendations to the superintendent of
schools. After review, the superintendent will submit recommendations to the Board of Trustees for ratification.
A list of textbooks up for adoption, information about the process, and a calendar of textbook adoption events can be found at www.dallasisd.org/textbook.
Important Dates in the Textbook Open Adoption Period Are:
"Dallas ISD students are showing improvement on college readiness indicators… and (the district) has shown improvement on Broad Prize indicators. Among the comparison Texas urban districts, only Houston ISD slightly outperforms Dallas ISD."
