Students Begin Preparing for the 2010 MLK Jr. Oratory Competition
DALLAS—Fourth and fifth grade students at sixteen Dallas ISD schools are preparing for a chance to represent their school in the 18th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competition sponsored by the law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell in conjunction with Dallas ISD. Dozens of students on each campus are conducting research, writing essays and memorizing speeches on the topic, What will I be able to achieve in my life because of what Dr. King achieved in his?
The students will participate in a preliminary round of competition on their campuses from Tuesday, November 10, through Friday, November 20.
Sixteen Dallas ISD schools have agreed to hold in-school competitions for the event with the winners advancing to the semifinals, which will be held at the district's Administration Building at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 8 in preparation for the finals round in January.
Participating elementary schools are: S.S. Conner, Urban Park, Edwin J. Kiest, Amelia Earhart, Jerry R. Junkins, Onesimo Hernandez, Arlington Park, Charles Rice, H.S. Thompson, J.P. Starks, John Neely Bryan, Clara Oliver, R.L. Thornton, T.L. Marsalis, Joseph J. Rhoads and Thomas Tolbert.
