School for the Talented and Gifted and School of Science and Engineering Make Top Ten List
DALLAS—The School for the Talented and Gifted and the School of Science and Engineering both at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center were named two of the top public high schools in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
Both schools made the magazine's list of Gold Medal Schools which identified the top 100 high schools in the nation. The School for the Talented and Gifted ranked fifth while the School of Science and Engineering came in eighth.
Other Dallas ISD schools honored were those making the Silver Medal list including: the Judge Barefoot Sanders Magnet Center for Public Service: Government, Law and Law Enforcement, School of Business and Management, School of Education and Social Services and School of Health Professions. Middle College High School made the Bronze Medal list.
"This is a well deserved honor," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "These students, teachers and staff work very hard to achieve academic success, and we couldn't be more pleased to have them recognized nationally for their accomplishments."
Schools making the list were measured in three areas: how they educate all of their students, how
they educate their minority and disadvantaged students, and how they educate their college-bound students based on student scores on statewide, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests.
"TAG is honored to be ranked as a top 10 school by the U.S. News & World Report and to bring honor to the Dallas Independent School District as we join the other Dallas schools that were also honored by being included in the ranking," said TAG principal Michael Satarino. "It is always pleasing when great teachers, great students, and great parents are honored for the incredible work they do."
"The Science/ Engineering students and staff members are honored to earn the recognition of being named a U.S. News Gold medal school for the third consecutive year," said SEM principal Jovan C. Wells. "I am especially proud of our hard-working students and outstanding faculty for their dedication and commitment to academic excellence."
U.S. News & World Report has ranked public high schools for the past three years. This is the third time that both schools have been named to the Gold Medal list.
"Dallas ISD is pioneering a college readiness warning system and we are proud to lend our support to it," in announcing a $3.77 million grant.
