Dallas ISD Students Lend A Helping Hand To Haiti
25 Jan 2010
Relief Efforts Range from Monetary to Life Kits Donations
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District students and staff have come together to lend a helping hand to earthquake victims in Haiti.
Some of the schools which are hosting efforts to help earthquake victims are:
- Stonewall Jackson Elementary: students are bringing life kits, which include toiletries. The kits will be donated to families in Haiti through the Greenland Hills Methodist Church.
- Students and staff at Urban Park Elementary will be allowed to wear jeans in exchange for a donation. Also, the Multi-Cultural committee has given all students and staff members a red heart to write their names on to decorate the character counts Most staff members will be making a donation for each heart. The raised funds will be donated to the American Red Cross.
- Students and staff at James B. Bonham Elementary are making donations to be distributed to the American Red Cross and to Doctors Without Borders.
- Also, students and staff at H.S. Thompson Learning Center are hosting a collection to raise funds for Haiti relief.
- Staff from C.A. Tatum Jr. Elementary will organize a campaign to donate items to the Salvation Army.
"Dallas ISD students are showing improvement on college readiness indicators… and (the district) has shown improvement on Broad Prize indicators. Among the comparison Texas urban districts, only Houston ISD slightly outperforms Dallas ISD."
