All Current Dallas ISD Eighth-Graders Can Apply
DALLAS—In an effort to provide parents with a choice when it comes to selecting their child's secondary school, Dallas ISD's Parental Public School Choice will sponsor the 2010-2011 High School Redesign Showcase for current eighth-grade students and their families Saturday, January 30, 9 a.m. – noon, at Woodrow Wilson High School, 100 S. Glasgow Dr.
The showcase will highlight nine Dallas ISD high schools offering career pathways that will be available to all students entering ninth grade next year. No special academic requirements apply, however, because space is limited, a lottery system will be used to determine which applicants will be accepted. The application period runs February 1 through February 26.
The following high schools will offer career pathways:
All current Dallas ISD eighth-graders and their parents are encouraged to attend the showcase to learn more about the programs.
Applications to attend one of the redesigned schools are available on the district Web site at www.dallasisd.org/parents/schoolchoice. If accepted, transportation will not be provided by the district.
"Dallas ISD students are showing improvement on college readiness indicators… and (the district) has shown improvement on Broad Prize indicators. Among the comparison Texas urban districts, only Houston ISD slightly outperforms Dallas ISD."
