Dallas ISD To Break Ground For The Construction Of George Herbert Walker Bush Elementary School

11 Feb 2010

The School is Scheduled to Open August 2011

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District officials will be joined by community leaders for the groundbreaking of George Herbert Walker Bush Elementary School, 3939 Spring Valley, in Addison, at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19.

George Herbert Walker Bush Elementary School, named for the 41st President of the United States, is scheduled to open August 2011. Bush Elementary will be the second school to be built under the 2008 Bond Program.

The new school will be 94,472 square feet, with a capacity for 824 pre-kinder through fifth grade students. This campus will serve as a relief school to Tom C. Gooch, Jerry R. Junkins, and Anne Frank elementary schools.

The campus is a CHPS Designed School (Collaborative for High Performance Schools): focused on sustainability in the areas of site utilization, water conservation, energy conservation, among others. It also will feature a discovery wall, that will be a collage of images along the main corridor, allowing students to "ask questions" to foster learning.

Program participants include Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, George P. Bush, City of Addison Mayor Joe Chow, and Trustee Edwin Flores, District 1.

"Top two public high schools in the country—School for the Talented and Gifted and School for Science and Engineering. Finding great schools is hard; finding our list's two top schools close together in the same building is beyond belief."
