Zona Escolar De Dallas To Air February 20 On KUVN-Channel 23

15 Feb 2010

DALLAS–Zona Escolar de Dallas, hosted by Dallas ISD students, airs Saturday, February 20 at 10 a.m. on KUVN-Channel 23. This Spanish language version of School Zone Dallas airs through a special partnership with this Univision affiliate. Zona Escolar de Dallas focuses on the good news and outstanding people who are part of the Dallas Independent School District.

Hosted from George Peabody Elementary School in Southwest Dallas, this latest edition takes a look at Emmett J. Conrad High School's STEM Academy where students are launching an aircraft into the atmosphere to study the curvature of the earth; and a fashion show at Skyline High School where student designs and creations make it to the runway.

Other segments feature the students and faculty at Eladio R. Martinez Learning Center as they learn the finer points of relaxation and harmony by participating in yoga classes; the future College Preparatory Academies at Woodrow Wilson High School, including the Academy of International Baccalaureate; and the special art of repairing musical instruments for Dallas ISD students.

This year's cast of Zona Escolar de Dallas includes co-hosts Fabiola Martinez, W.T. White High School and Raul Ortega, W.H. Adamson High School. Reporters on the program are Erika Ipina, the School of Business and Management at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center and Julissa Marmolejo and Maria Diaz, both at Skyline High School.

Zona Escolar de Dallas is produced by Dallas Schools Television. For more information go to www.dallasisd.org/zona.

"Dallas ISD principals and their teachers are no longer focusing on teaching to the test but rather creating academically challenging assignments that will better prepare students for college and the world of work. Dallas ISD has become an exemplar for urban schools as an effort based district that focuses on high achievement for all students."
