Dallas ISD Parents To Have Online Access To Their Child's Academic Progress

1 Apr 2010

Three Schools Will Launch a Pilot Parental Portal

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District parents will have online access to key information about their child's academic progress, attendance, homework, class schedule, and more through a pilot parental portal to be launched in three Dallas ISD schools.

The schools are Annie Webb Blanton Elementary School, Ewell D. Walker Middle School, and Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. The pilot is expected to begin in May.

"Given the outcome of the pilot, a plan for a phased rollout of additional schools will take place next fall," said Dallas ISD Chief of Staff Arnold Viramontes, who is leading the parent portal project. "The parent portal will eventually give all Dallas ISD parents online access to their child's academic records."

The three schools were among 12 Dallas ISD schools (four elementary, four middle, and four high schools) whose representatives had reviewed the portal and made recommendations for enhancements. Through earlier focus groups, information concerning content of the parent portal was collected from parents, teachers, and central staff.

Among factors considered in selecting the pilot schools were school size, geographic representation, level of parent involvement, ability to provide parents with access to the portal at the campus, and having an active community/parent liaison.

"Dallas ISD is pioneering a college readiness warning system and we are proud to lend our support to it," in announcing a $3.77 million grant.
