Dallas ISD Names Finalist For The 2010-2011 Teacher Of The Year Award

The Teacher of the Year Will Be Announced on May 25

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District has named four finalists for the 2010–2011 Teacher of the Year award.

The finalists are:



A committee of judges selected the semifinalists and finalists based on a number of criteria including the ability to inspire a drive for excellence in a diverse student population; commitment to professional development and contributions to the teaching profession; awareness of current issues in education; level of community involvement; and quality of interactions with parents and peers.

The semifinalists are: Maricel Forteza, César Chávez Learning Center; Judy Cole, Edwin J. Kiest Elementary; Tonya Krause, Central Elementary; Charvelia Lewis, Charles Rice Learning Center; Ursula Baker, E. D. Walker Middle School; Elske M. Cordero, Edward H. Cary Middle School; Charles Opoku, School for the Talented and Gifted at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center; and Leigh Kerstetter-Roland from W. W. Samuell High School.

The Dallas Independent School District's 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year will be announced at an awards program sponsored by H-E-B Central Market on Tuesday, May 25, at 6 p.m., at the Women's Museum at Fair Park, 3800 Parry Ave.
