Student Winners Of U.S. Census Poster Contest Announced

Students Created Poster Campaign to Increase Census Awareness

DALLAS—The winners of the U.S. Census Poster Contest were announced today at an awards ceremony recognizing Dallas ISD students who participated in a campaign to create awareness about the importance of the U.S. Census. More than 1,000 posters were submitted by students, and nine posters were selected as winners districtwide.

First, second and third place winners were announced in the elementary, middle and high school levels.

The contest was part of the 2010 Census in Schools: It's About Us campaign and was sponsored
by the Dallas ISD Social Studies Department and the U.S. Census.

More than 1,000 students participated in the poster contest. Some posters will be displayed at the U.S. Census Bureau National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. as well as regional and local census offices.

"Dallas ISD principals and their teachers are no longer focusing on teaching to the test but rather creating academically challenging assignments that will better prepare students for college and the world of work. Dallas ISD has become an exemplar for urban schools as an effort based district that focuses on high achievement for all students."
