Dallas ISD To Host A "Coming Home" Celebration For Kennedy-Curry Middle School

The Celebration Will Kick Off the Renovation and Expansion of Former Wilmer-Hutchins School

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District will host a "Coming Home" Celebration at Kennedy-Curry Middle School, 6605 Sebring, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 22.

As part of Phase I of the 2008 Bond Program, Kennedy-Curry Middle School will undergo an extensive renovation and expansion to better serve students and families in the community near I-20 and I-45.

The campus, originally part of the former Wilmer-Hutchins School District, will receive a 59,325 -sq.-ft. addition, including a new auditorium, locker rooms and cafeteria expansion. As part of the project 71,620 sq. ft. of the existing building will be renovated. The remodeled school is scheduled to open for the 2011–2012 school year.

Program participants include students from Maynard Jackson Middle School and Skyline High School, Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, District 5 Trustee Lew Blackburn, State Representative Helen Giddings, and representatives from the cities of Wilmer and Hutchins.

Future bond projects in this same area will include Wilmer-Hutchins High School, which will undergo extensive renovation, and a new elementary school.
