Construction to Begin on Handicap-Accessible Home for Paralyzed Student

DALLAS—A groundbreaking ceremony for Project 24, Inc., the fundraising campaign to build a handicap-accessible home for paralyzed football player Jared Williams, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 24, at the site of the new home, 2059 Angelina Dr.

Students, staff, community members and Builders of Hope of West Dallas will join Jared and his family as they celebrate the beginning of construction.

Williams, a L.G. Pinkston High School defensive back who wore the number 24 on his jersey, was injured during a football game against North Dallas High School last October.

Through Project 24, Inc., Dallas ISD students districtwide donated 24 cents to a campaign to help raise money to build Williams and his family a home equipped to handle special needs. District staff, community members and donors as far away as California and New York also joined in the fundraising efforts. To date, the project has raised more than $96,000 which includes $40,000 in materials, supplies and labor donated by Builders of Hope.

Williams is paralyzed from the waist down, and his current home does not accommodate his special needs.
