Dallas ISD Invites Graduates Who Have Not Yet Applied To College to Major Mania Event

25 May 2010

The free event will provide on-site admission and assistance with financial aid

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District will host a Major Mania event for its 2010 high school graduates at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 15, at the freshman center of North Dallas High School, 3120 N. Haskell.

The Major Mania event is a partnership between Dallas ISD, the Campus Career Advisors in the Office of Career Education, and Workforce Partnerships in conjunction with the Dallas County Community College District. Graduates from 2010 who have not yet chosen a college or career will be able to learn more about the special programs available at the Dallas County Community Colleges and select a college that best fits their career goals.

The free, one-stop shop event will provide on-site admission, as well as assistance with financial aid, and assistance in selecting a major. Students must bring their social security number, if available, but not necessary. Also, students will need a copy of their parents' 2009 income tax return to fill out the FASFA form.

The Office of Career Education and Workforce Partnerships Career Counseling Center also offers Dallas ISD graduates assistance with post-secondary planning and employment needs for up to one year after graduation. For more information about the Major Mania event or to make an appointment with the Career Counseling Center, call (214) 932-5180 or (214) 932-5179.

No appointment is necessary to attend the Major Mania event.

"The Dallas Independent School District and the students it serves have made substantial strides over the last several years. Its academic gains have been some of the most impressive in the country, and the district is now viewed as one of the nation's fastest improving urban school systems."
