High School Students Being Trained In CPR

26 May 2010

Nearly 4,000 Dallas ISD Students Learn CPR; Goal to Train 1,000 More

DALLAS—Dallas ISD has joined with Dallas Fire and Rescue and the American Heart Association to increase the number of people trained to perform CPR by teaching 5,000 high school students to perform the life-saving technique. To date, more than 3,700 students have been trained at 15 Dallas ISD schools.

This training effort coincides with the 50th anniversary of CPR, and is part of the Texas Citizen Hero program, an initiative to bring awareness about the importance of knowing CPR. As part of the initiative, Texas is competing with other states across the country to see which state can train the most people.

Dallas Fire and Rescue members and American Heart Association representatives have been visiting Dallas ISD schools teaching students the proper use of CPR. Students are taught the fundamentals of CPR and are encouraged to follow two simple steps: dial 911 and provide CPR until the paramedics arrive.

The CPR team will visit students at Sunset High School, 2120 W. Jefferson Blvd., Thursday, May 27, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
