Parents must sign forms available in their children's enrollment packets
DALLAS–Parents of Dallas ISD students may opt to prevent student directory information from being released using forms found in their children's enrollment packets.
Information such as the student's name, address, phone number, grade level, date and place of birth and most recent school attended, may be withheld by signing and returning the form available in the enrollment packet provided by the schools. The enrollment packets will be distributed to students early in the semester.
A full list of the data considered "directory information" can be found in Board Policy FL, which regulates student records.
Directory information may be released by Dallas ISD to anyone who requests it, including non-Dallas ISD affiliated organizations, unless the student's parent or legal guardian has objected to the release of information in writing, and returned the form within the allotted timeframe.
Parents may opt out of the release of student directory information by returning the form each year the student is enrolled in school. The form must be signed and returned within 15 school days from the time the enrollment packet is distributed.
To be in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Dallas ISD will release to military recruiters and institutions of higher education, upon request, secondary school students' name, address, and telephone listing, unless the parent or guardian directs Dallas ISD not to release this information without prior written consent.
Detailed information about parental rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act may be found in the Student Handbook. Parents also may review this information by visiting the district's Web site at www.dallasisd.org under the heading "For Parents." Information is also available from district campuses.
