Students Must Submit a Student Referral Form
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center is now enrolling students new to the country for the 2010–2011 school year, which begins Monday, August 23.
Students must be referred for services using a form which is to be completed by campus personnel. During the summer months, Student Intake Center staff will be responsible for filling out the referral forms.
The Student Intake Center's summer registration hours are from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Starting the week of August 16, the center will be open five days a week. Appointments are recommended.
The student must be present to be enrolled, since he/she must be assessed. Proof of residency (utility bill or lease contract), immunization record, student birth certificate or affidavit (proof of age), I-94 (if refugee), food stamp number (if available), and report cards or previous school records, will be required at the enrollment appointment.
Since it opened its doors in 2003, the Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center provides guidance to immigrant and refugee students and their parents in adapting to life in the United States, and to learn about Dallas ISD's programs and services. Services provided at the Student Intake Center include enrollment, academic assessment, immunization verification and referral, mentoring, tutoring, orientation, alternative education counseling, and other services.
The center is located at 2617 N. Henderson, behind James Bonham Elementary School. To schedule an appointment, call (972) 749-5760.
