Phase I Of 2008 Dallas Bond Program In Full Swing In Dallas ISD

3 Aug 2010

$1.35 billion bond providing renovations to campuses throughout the city

DALLAS–Seventy-nine schools in the Dallas Independent School District are receiving renovations this summer during the implementation of Phase I of the 2008 bond program.

The renovations include school modernization work, fire/security upgrades, mechanical and electrical upgrades, work on the exteriors of some campuses and restroom refurbishment.

"Thanks to Dallas voters, our schools are beginning to receive renovations that they have needed for quite some time," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "When teachers, staff and students return to many of their campuses next month, they will begin to see how these improvements will positively impact the learning environment."

The $1.35 billion bond program approved by voters in 2008 will be implemented in three phases through 2013. In addition to renovations at most existing campuses, 14 new and replacement schools are being built and 12 additions to existing campuses will be constructed. There will also be science lab additions, kitchen and dining refurbishments and an upgrade of technology at most campuses.

"Top two public high schools in the country-School for the Talented and Gifted and School for Science and Engineering. Finding great schools is hard; finding our list's two top schools close together in the same building is beyond belief."
