School Starts Monday, August 23
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District will partner with Dallas County Schools and the Dallas Police Department to ensure that all students have a safe new school year, which starts Monday, Aug. 23.
During a news conference at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Arturo Salazar Elementary School, 1120 S. Ravinia Dr., Dallas ISD and Dallas Police Department officials will ask drivers to observe traffic laws and reduce speed in school zone areas as the new school year starts. Also, Dallas County Schools will discuss their safety programs, which include a proposed live video transmitting and monitoring system which will videotape vehicles that pass stopped school buses with activated stop signs and/or warning lights.
"Dallas ISD has improved more than any other urban district in Texas and more than all but one urban district in the country in narrowing the achievement gap."
