DALLAS–Ascher Silberstein Elementary School, 5940 Hollis Ave., will kick off the White Rock Marathon Mayor's Race on Monday, Sept. 13, at 9:30 a.m.

The United States Marines, Assistant Chief of Police Floyd Simpson, Dallas Police officers, officials from the Dallas White Rock Marathon, former Dallas Mayor Laura Miller, Dallas ISD Chief of Staff Arnold Viramontes and representatives from New Balance will be at the event to talk to students about the importance of health and fitness. Also, they will kick off 3 Months to 3 Miles, a training program geared toward families that will train and prepare Dallas ISD students to run the Dallas White Rock Marathon Mayor's Race on Saturday, Dec. 4.

In addition, during the kick off, 35 students from Ascher Silberstein will receive new pairs of running shoes courtesy of New Balance.

"Dallas ISD principals and their teachers are no longer focusing on teaching to the test but rather creating academically challenging assignments that will better prepare students for college and the world of work. Dallas ISD has become an exemplar for urban schools as an effort based district that focuses on high achievement for all students."
