Dallas ISD Hosting Groundbreaking For Skyline High School's Expansion And Renovations

School Will Receive a New Gymnasium and a Cafeteria Expansion

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District officials, students and community members will gather at the groundbreaking ceremony for Skyline High School's expansion and renovations at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17.

As part of the Phase I of the 2008 Bond Program, the school will receive a new competition gymnasium of approximately 31,000 square feet and a seating capacity of 2,000, associated locker rooms and a weight room. The gym will be named after longtime coach J.D. Mayo.

Also, the cafeteria will be expanded to approximately 11,000 square feet. The current seating capacity is 490 students. After the expansion, the cafeteria will have a seating capacity of 1,079 (908 interior seats and 171 seats in the exterior courtyard). Renovations will also be made to the kitchen.

Other highlights of the 2008 Bond Program work to be done at Skyline High School include: painting of the exterior of the building, roof replacement over the library, renovations to toilet facilities throughout the campus, replacement of hot water, steam, and domestic boilers, partial security system repairs and/or replacement.

Phase I of the Bond Program is expected to be completed by Spring of 2011.

Program participants will include Skyline's Choir and Band; District 9 Trustee Bernadette Nutall; Sandy Wilson, President-Alumni Association; Honoree J.D. Mayo; David Patton, Director, Construction Services – Dallas ISD; and Principal Harold Wright.
