Dallas ISD To Host 'Education: Go Get It Week'

Students Will Learn and Participate in Higher Education Themed Activities From Sept. 20–24
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District will host its Education: Go Get it Week from Monday, Sept. 20 through Friday, Sept. 24.
The Education: Go Get it Week initiative is a new state requirement to have each school designate one week to promote college awareness and provide information to students regarding higher education.
During the Education: Go Get it Week, schools throughout Dallas ISD will host college awareness themed activities so students in all grades, elementary to high school, learn about the importance of continuing their education beyond high school and also about the available resources and services to pursue a college education.
Below are some of the events that will take place in Dallas ISD schools during Education: Go Get it Week
- William B. Miller Elementary School, 3111 Lynn Haven Ave., will host a career day on Friday, Sept. 24.
- Teachers and students at Lorenzo De Zavala Elementary School, 3214 N. Winnetka Ave., will have a door decoration contest all week. Also, teachers will wear college spirit shirts and will share their college experience with students. The winners of the door decoration contest will be announced Friday, Sept. 24.
- On Thursday, Sept. 23, Walnut Hill Elementary School, 10115 Midway Road, will have a college t-shirt day and Education: Go Get it Assemblies. Eric Hogue, Mayor of Wylie, will speak to third through fifth graders at 8:15 a.m. and to pre-kindergartens through second graders at 9:30 a.m.
- Middle College High School, 701 Elm St., will have student academic competition games, including "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?" on Friday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
