Sponsor Capital One Bank Encourages Business & Community Leaders to Get Involved in Schools

DALLAS–Corporate, social, professional, civic and community leaders will take over Dallas Independent School District Schools as they leave their jobs to become "Principals for a Day" on Tuesday, October 5. "Principals for a Day" will greet students, make the morning announcements and walk the halls at more than half of Dallas ISD schools.

Sponsored by Capital One Bank, in partnership with the Dallas Regional Chamber, the Principal for a Day program gives community leaders the opportunity to experience firsthand what Dallas ISD principals encounter on a daily basis. In addition, the program is designed to increase awareness and understanding among individuals in the private sector of the strengths and challenges of schools in the district. It also demonstrates the private sector's commitment to ensuring quality public education for all students and forming ongoing partnerships between individuals, businesses and Dallas ISD.

"We are thrilled to partner once again with Dallas ISD and encourage all "Principals for a Day" volunteers to look at this as a long-term relationship, not just one day," said Jorge Calderon, Dallas Market President–Capital One Bank, who will be a Principal for a Day at W.W. Samuell High School, 8928 Palisade Dr.

An average school day includes meetings with the faculty to learn about the day-to-day operations of a school. Guest principals may also teach a class, meet with the student council, attend student performances, read to students or lead a class assembly.

At the end of the day, a reception will be hosted for all principals and community leaders participating as "Principals for a Day" at 4 p.m., at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel, 400 Crescent Court. Program participants are matched and assigned to either an elementary, middle, or high school.

Business and community leaders who will be "Principals for a Day" include:

"Dallas ISD is pioneering a college readiness warning system and we are proud to lend our support to it," in announcing a $3.77 million grant.
