"Brick by Brick, Click by Click!" Public Can Follow Bond Program Progress
DALLAS-The Dallas Independent School District will flip on the switch of its 2008 Dallas ISD Bond Program Web site, www.dallasisd2008bond.org on September 28. The new site is a powerful online resource that leverages today's technology to showcase and detail current and future Dallas ISD Bond Program construction projects. Brick by Brick, Click by Click! the public can follow the progress of the bond program, even tracking planned improvements to their neighborhood schools.
An important component of the new site is the integration of social media tools to update the public via online channels about the pace of construction, groundbreakings and new school openings. With social media tools like Flickr, which places high-resolution photos in one convenient online location, and RSS Feeds, which sends subscribers project updates the moment they are posted to the site, Dallas ISD parents, community, students and media will have access to project updates and information as never before.
"The new bond program Web site equips us to demonstrate to members of our community that their 2008 Bond Program dollars are being spent wisely and efficiently," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "This site is another example of our commitment to use every method at our disposal to communicate with the community that made this bond program a reality."
The new Web site showcases construction and renovation projects including new schools, renovations and additions to existing schools, repurposed schools and facility renovations, and includes a search function that enables the look-up of schools by zip code and street address.

"The 2008 Bond Program is now in Phase I of a multi-phased plan to make needed infrastructure improvements at virtually every district school," said Deputy Chief of Operations Phil Jimerson. "We're proud that this building effort is not only changing the landscape of our city, but is also being accomplished on time and under budget. The 2008 Bond Program was approved by voters in May 2008 paving the way for extensive improvements across the entire district. Overall the plan calls for construction of eight elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools, the substantial reconstruction of three repurposed schools and the creation of 177 new classrooms on 13 existing campuses. In addition, the program will provide roughly $521 million in renovations to more than 200 schools, add 19 new science labs at six secondary schools and update 16 school kitchens and 22 lunchrooms.
