The New Program To Be Launched During News Conference Tomorrow
DALLAS–William Powers Jr., president of The University of Texas at Austin, will join officials from Dallas-based Education is Freedom and Dallas Independent School District to launch a pilot program for Dallas students at a news conference tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m., at Lincoln High School, located at 2826 Hatcher St.
The purpose of the program is to provide historically underserved but high achieving students a pathway to The University of Texas at Austin. The program also will provide students access to academic enrichment programs and services and college awareness workshops. UT Austin has earmarked $3 million for scholarships over a three-year period for qualifying students.
Program participants include Dallas ISD Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, UT-Austin President William Powers Jr.; Education Is Freedom President Marcia Page; Education Is Freedom Chairman David Biegler; and Gregory J. Vincent, UT-Austin's Vice President for Diversity and Community Engagement.
