The Initiative is Part of the Ticket to Reading Rewards Program
DALLAS–Approximately 150 Dallas Independent School District middle school basketball coaches will participate in a Coaches Clinic on Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Ellis Davis Field House, 9191 South Polk St.
The Coaches Clinic is part of a partnership between Dallas ISD and the organization Ticket to Reading Rewards and the National Association of Basketball Coaches Foundation with the purpose of motivating middle school students to read more.
The Coaches Clinic is designed to teach high level basketball techniques to middle school coaches; to provide them with tips for running practices and game day strategies; and to urge them to motivate students to engage more in reading, as part of the Ticket To Reading Rewards program. Seven Dallas ISD schools are currently participating in the Ticket to Reading Rewards program.
Coach Matt Doherty from Southern Methodist University will lead the Coaches Clinic, along with his assistant coaches and Dallas ISD's Athletics Department.
"The Dallas Independent School District and the students it serves have made substantial strides over the last several years. Its academic gains have been some of the most impressive in the country, and the district is now viewed as one of the nation's fastest improving urban school systems."
