Dallas ISD Board Of Trustees Adopts 2011-2012 School Calendar

Classes will begin Monday, Aug. 22

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees has adopted the school calendar for the 2011-2012 school year. The new calendar calls for classes to begin Monday, Aug. 22.

Created by a calendar committee comprised of central office administrators, teachers, and community members, the calendar approval process includes the development of at least two draft calendar options that are voted on by staff and community members. The most popular option is then reviewed by the superintendent and the executive leadership team and submitted to the trustees for final consideration.

Below are highlights of the adopted calendar:

• Students begin classes Aug. 22.

• A single district fair day for both elementary and secondary students falls on Oct. 7.
• 
  
• Fall parent conferences are scheduled Oct. 11, 12, and 13.
• 
  
• Thanksgiving break is Nov. 23-25.
• 
  
• Winter break is Dec. 19-30.
• 
  
• First semester ends Jan. 13.
• 
  
• Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday observance, Jan. 16, is a student and teacher holiday.
• 
  
• Presidents Day, March 20, is a student and teacher holiday.
• 
  
• Spring break is March 12-16.
• 
  
• Spring parent conferences are March 19, 20, and 21.
• 
  
• Inclement weather days are April 6 and June 1.
• 
  
• Students' last day is May 31 unless the second bad weather make-up day is needed.

The 2011-2012 school year will have a total of 175 instructional days, and includes seven staff development days, four teacher preparation days, and two early release days.
