Dallas ISD Host Naming Ceremony For H.I. Holland Elementary School At Lisbon

8 Feb 2011

The Naming Will Honor African American Educator

DALLAS-Dallas Independent School District staff, students, and parents will be joined by the community for the naming ceremony of H.I. Holland Elementary School at Lisbon, 4203 S. Lancaster Road, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15.

The naming celebrates the life and legacy of the late educator Herman I. Holland, who served Dallas ISD for 43 years. During his career in the district, Holland worked in half a dozen schools as teacher, athletic coach, and principal and was active in numerous area civic groups.

Program participants include Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, Trustee Lew Blackburn-District 5, Holland's family members, and community members who knew and worked with Holland. Students also will perform during the naming ceremony.

"Dallas ISD has improved more than any other urban district in Texas and more than all but one urban district in the country in narrowing the achievement gap."
