"It is an honor and a privilege to be elected as chair of the board of directors for the national Council of the Great City Schools," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "I am looking forward to working together with representatives from other school districts throughout the nation so we can ensure that school districts continue to meet the needs of students and provide them a quality education."

Hinojosa will begin serving as chair of the board of directors for the national Council of the Great City Schools July 1.

Dallas ISD has 66 Exemplary schools and 59 Recognized schools during the 2010–2011 school year according to the Texas Education Agency.
