School Reopens in Wilmer-Hutchins Area August 2011
DALLAS—Regina Rice, principal at Maynard Jackson Middle School, will serve as principal of Kennedy-Curry Middle School in the Wilmer-Hutchins area, reopening August 2011.
Rice, a 20-year veteran in education, is a product of Dallas ISD having graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School.
"I am excited about the reopening of Kennedy-Curry because it represents the coming together of two great communities both rich with history, pride and a strong love for our most valuable resource—our children," said Rice. "This is a unique opportunity to open a new, state-of-the-art school, which will provide students with cutting edge resources and technology on a campus driven by instruction. This is an educator's dream come true."
Rice has served as an elementary and middle school assistant principal prior to being appointed as principal at Maynard Jackson. Under her leadership, the school improved in its academic performance as well as its overall organizational health. Maynard Jackson has led the district's middle school academic performance recently with double digit gains in both math and science.
She attributes Maynard Jackson's success to the team of dedicated professionals who are focused on the same goal—student achievement. Rice will bring this same team and focus to Kennedy-Curry.
Rice earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Texas in Denton and her master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Texas Wesleyan University in Ft. Worth. She
received her principalship certification from the University of Texas in Arlington. Rice currently serves as the Middle School Commissioner for the Dallas Region National Alliance of Black School Educators, and she holds membership in a number of education organizations.
Additionally, Rice has taken intense coursework in the study of the Spanish language having completed many levels of the Dallas ISD Spanish for Principals program.
"I'm a servant leader, and I want the parents and students to know they can depend on me to ensure that academic excellence and the well being of our students are my top priority."
As part of the 2008 Bond program, Kennedy-Curry Middle School was renovated with updates and new additions which include a new auditorium and locker room; refurbished restrooms, updated fire alarm, security, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and more.
"I am very excited about the reopening of Kennedy-Curry Middle School this August. This campus, under the leadership of Ms. Rice, will be an incredible asset to the students, staff and entire Kennedy-Curry community," said Regina Jones, senior executive director, East Secondary Learning Community.
