DALLAS–To observe Earth Day, approximately 500 volunteers will beautify several Dallas Independent School District schools on Thursday, April 14.

This project is sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and DART. DART will provide transportation for the volunteers who will visit 10 Dallas ISD schools to wash windows; clean trash and weeds; plant flowers, trees, and ground covers; paint light poles, among other projects. Some of the schools to be beautified include the elementaries: Winnetka, Margaret B. Henderson, James Bowie, Stevens Park, James W. Fannin, James B. Bonham, Lorenzo De Zavala, and Amelia Earhart. The beautification projects will take place between 9:30 a.m. and noon.

Also, to celebrate Earth Day, Dallas ISD high school students will attend the Earth Day Dallas 2011 event on Friday, April 22, taking place in the Arts District. Students will be able to hear from speakers about how they can help the environment, and also will attend exhibits and see short films about renewable energy, water conservation, waste management, and air pollution.
