DALLAS—Dallas ISD middle school students are learning at an early age to think globally as participants in the Model U.N., a mock session that gives students an opportunity to be United Nations diplomats for a chosen country. The social studies program culminates with a Model U.N. which takes place at 9 a.m., Tuesday, May 10, at Ellis Davis Field House, 9191 S. Polk.</>

All year, students have been preparing to participate in the Model U.N. by studying, researching and learning about global issues impacting their chosen nation, the inner workings of the United Nations, our government and the governments of countries around the world.</>

During the Model U.N. event, students will represent their chosen countries in a mock session that actually replicates a real United Nations assembly. Teams will present four position papers on specific global issues and be prepared to discuss the issues with their fellow diplomats. They will also exhibit displays they created to help other students understand their country's position on the issues. Flags of all the nations represented at the mock session will don the stadium.</>

An International Baccalaureate student from Woodrow Wilson High School will serve as the moderator.</>

Through the program, students not only learn about current issues around the globe, but they also learn how to work together to resolve conflict.</>
