Scholarships Presented at Reception to Honor Recipients April 21
DALLAS—Sixty-two Dallas ISD high school seniors will receive scholarships at the Superintendent's Scholarship Reception, 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21, at Emmett J. Conrad High School, 7502 Fair Oaks Ave.</>
Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa will join School Board President Adam Medrano and Leslie Williams, senior executive director, Central Secondary Learning Community, to present each student with a $2,000 scholarship to go toward their college education.</>
Students receiving the scholarships have demonstrated a commitment to community service, upheld high academic standards and displayed good character.</>
Since 2000, the Superintendent's Scholarship program has awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors from each Dallas ISD comprehensive and magnet high school. The awards are funded by proceeds from the annual Superintendent's Scholarship Golf Classic. Since its inception, the program has awarded $1,234,000 to college bound students from Dallas ISD. The total amount awarded this year will be $124,000.</>
The annual Joe May Scholarship and the Amado S. Hinojosa Scholarship also will be presented during the ceremony along with two new scholarship awards: the SchoolMessenger Scholarship and the Parsons Scholarship Honoring Dr. Nolan Estes.</>
