Robots Built by Students Battle for Class Championship
DALLAS—Students at Sarah Zumwalt Middle School had ring-side seats as robots built by six student teams battled it out for the class championship. The robot-styled wrestling match was part of the Frito-Lay MOSAIC Robotics Program in celebration of National Robotics Week.</>
For the past year, Frito-Lay's MOSAIC resource group for African-American employees has worked with Zumwalt students teaching them how to build and program robots. The MOSAIC group provided the robotic equipment used by the students and used the opportunity to teach students math and technology in an effort to inspire more students to pursue careers in engineering.</>
The robotic program culminated with a head-to-head RoboSumo competition between the six robots pitted against each other for a chance to be named 2011 Class Champions.</>
Team "Deathbots" battled it out until the bitter end to win the crown.</>
