Dallas ISD Teen Board Promote Literacy as Service to Community</>
DALLAS—The Dallas ISD Teen School Board came out in full force for their community service project Reading is Succeeding as they engaged members of the East Dallas Boys & Girls Club in a fun, interactive literacy project.</>
Through Reading is Succeeding, the teens hoped to promote reading while stressing the impact of positive relationships in the lives of young people.</>
During the event, Teen Board members guided Boys & Girls Club participants through creative storytelling, group reading, artistic expression exercises and a fun-filled grammar workshop.</>
Teen Board is comprised of two students from each Dallas ISD high school and meets monthly to discuss issues that concern the local schools. Through the board, members have the opportunity to offer advice about student concerns to the superintendent and be involved in the district in a leadership capacity. Each year, the teens are responsible for developing, organizing and implementing a community service project.</>
Marcia Page, president and CEO of Education is Freedom, was the guest storyteller.</>
