Deadline to apply for accelerated high school coursework is May 2</>
DALLAS - Dallas ISD's 2011 summer school program will serve students at all grade levels with offerings including mandatory credit recovery programs, TAKS Academies and elective summer enrichment.</>
The TAKS Academy is a tuition-free program for fifth- and eighth-graders who are required to retake TAKS exams in reading or math. It is set for 8 a.m.-noon weekdays June 13-30, at elementary and middle school summer school sites. The term will end with test administrations on June 28 for math, June 29 for reading and July 30 for other identified students.</>
High School summer school will be conducted June 15-July 21. Hours are 8 a.m.-1:35 p.m. at Bryan Adams, W.H. Adamson, Justin F. Kimball, Moisés E. Molina, W.W. Samuell and E.D. Walker Middle School. Evening summer school is offered 4:15-9:45 p.m. only at Kimball. Credit recovery is a tuition-free program for high school students to gain credit for courses taken but not successfully completed prior to the end of the 2010-2011 school year.</>
The TAKS Applications and Study Skills program is also free and is for high school students who are required to retake the exit-level TAKS exams in English, math, science or social studies. The program runs June 15 through the third week of July. The program will be offered at Adams and Kimball high schools, ending with test administration on July 11 for English Language Arts, July 12 for math, July13 for science and July 14 for social studies.</>
The Acceleration program is also offered at High School Summer School sites for students who wish to take select courses during the summer, with tuition costing $70 per one-half credit. Depending on the number of students enrolling, course offerings may include Communications Applications, Economics, Government, Health, Foundations of Personal Fitness, Spanish for Native Speakers I and Art I. Students interested in accelerated coursework must apply through their home school counselor by May 2.</>
Summer Camp will be offered 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. weekdays July 5-28 at elementary schools and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at middle schools. The first week will be Tuesday-Friday, with the following weeks being Monday-Thursday. Both will feature project-based learning programs and enrichment, with the middle school camp including "Career Cruising" that will help students explore careers that may correspond with high school pathways.</>
