Dallas ISD Schools to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

The celebration will include folklorico dances, student performances, festivals and more</>

DALLAS– Dallas Independent School District Schools will host events to observe Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Although the Mexican Army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism.</>

The events will include traditional folklorico dances, festivals, appearances by local community leaders, student performances, and more.</>

Some of the Cinco de Mayo events taking place in Dallas ISD schools include:</>

Moisés E. Molina High School will celebrate with a Cinco de Mayo dance and mariachi concert on Wednesday, May 4, at 7 p.m. The school is located at 2355 Duncanville Rd. </>

David W. Carter High School, 1819 W. Wheatland Rd., is hosting a Cinco de Mayo program on Thursday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. During the program students will perform a reenactment of the Battle of Puebla. Traditional dances, songs, and speeches honoring famous Hispanic Americans also will be featured during the program. </>

Central Elementary students are hosting a program for parents on Thursday, May 5, at 1:15 p.m., at the school located at 902 Shady Lane in Seagoville. Also, on Saturday, May 7, the school in a partnership with Seagoville Chamber of Commerce will have its first annual Cinco de Mayo Folklorico Competition, at 1 p.m., at Bruce Central Park, 1801 N. Hwy. 175.</>

Sunset High School's PTSA will celebrate with a carnival at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 5. The carnival will include traditional Mexican food, music, and dance. Parents will host a flag ceremony. The ceremony will include Ana Virginia Hernandez from the Consulate of México in Dallas and Texas State Representative Roberto Alonzo. Sunset High School is located at 2120 W. Jefferson Blvd.</>

A festival featuring folklorico dances, performances, food and games will be hosted at Arturo Salazar Elementary School, 1120 S. Ravinia, at 4 p.m., Friday, May 6.</>

Also on May 6, North Dallas High School, 3120 N. Haskell Ave., will host its Cinco de Mayo Carnival, at 2:35 p.m. The festivities will include performances by the school's folklorico dance group, break dancing group, and a guest dance from Alex W. Spence Talented/Gifted Academy.</>
