Dallas ISD Kicks Off the Breakfast in the Classroom Program

Dallas ISD is one of five major school districts selected to share a $3 million Walmart Foundation Grant


DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District will join hunger, nutrition, and education experts to kick off the Breakfast in the Classroom program, at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, at Lenore Kirk Hall Elementary School, 2120 Keats Dr. Dallas ISD is one of only five major school districts selected to share a $3 million Walmart Foundation Grant. The other school districts are Little Rock School District, Arkansas; Memphis City Schools, Tennessee; Orange County Public Schools, Florida (including Orlando); and Prince George's County Public Schools, Maryland.

The Breakfast in the Classroom program is funded by the Walmart Foundation to expand free breakfasts to all students. Students eat the breakfast in their classrooms as they start their lessons for the day.

Program participants include Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, Dora Rivas, executive director-Dallas ISD's Food and Child Nutrition Services, representatives from the Food Research and Action Center, the National Association of Elementary School Principals Foundation, the National Education Association Health Information Network, and the School Nutrition Foundation.
